What is Little Bands? Little Bands School is Part of Grekin Music, a community music school founded by musician and educator Dr. Joshua Grekin. Grekin Music offers private lessons on all instruments, and opportunities for orchestra, choir, jazz band, exciting electives and a variety of small ensembles. Little Bands Academy is our initial "basic training" program; a powerful introduction to music that builds a strong, comprehensive skill set and a deep understanding of music. How Does It Work?
Students join a band. The instrumentation of the band is piano, guitar, bass, drums and voice, like a small rock band or jazz band. The band follows a detailed curriculum of songs and writes their own songs, and each band member learns every song on all 4 instruments! This helps facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the music and boosts skills like composition, improvising, and interacting with other band members. Little Bands students will be playing and singing as a group the very first day of class. By the time they have been in the program for one semester they understand how a piece of music is put together. They can improvise and compose. They work well as a team, sing, and play four instruments. This is a comprehensive education that can continue for years, and accommodates students from pre-school through high school. This program is also ideal for schools in the classroom environment. For information on how the program can be formatted for larger classes, contact us at littlebands@gmail.com.
